Through the commitment of volunteers, RDA enables people with disabilities to ride or carriage drive to benefit their health and wellbeing and to achieve their goals.

Across the UK, RDA groups rely on the input and support of volunteers - not just those who help with riding or carriage driving but also fundraisers, treasurers, administrators or simply to help with a bit of DIY.

We need volunteers with a wide range of skills to make RDA groups work - people who want to share in the fun and excitement and be part of the environment that bring horses and people together for such great benefit.

Volunteering Facts
  • RDA Groups bring together more than 18,000 volunteers who help to make a real and lasting difference to the lives of 23,000 riders or carriage drivers
  • Each year RDA volunteers contribute more than 3.5 million hours of their time
  • RDA prides itself on its high standards of care, safety and training and every volunteer is trained and supported to ensure that these standards are met
  • Every one of the 500 RDA groups across the UK needs more volunteers to develop and expand the service
  • Volunteers at every group achieve amazing results and help people realise dreams. In 2005 this was recognised by the Queens Award for Volunteering, which was awarded to the Isle of Man and Muirfiled groups. This continues RDA's excellent record of recognition in this field, with over 6 awards in the past 3 years
  • RDA volunteers are ordinary people doing extraordinary things
