Polo

PoloIn 2000 Larry Leggatt and Christopher Walkinshaw founder members of the Cambridge and Newmarket Polo Club decided to show the caring side of polo, by offering to teach some of our RDA riders to play. They approached Gay Redman, Cambridgeshire County Chairman, who enlisted the help of Judith Walker, RDASI from the College of West Anglia. The RDA Group who rides there had several good riders who started off stick and balling on their feet and practicing their swings on the wooden horse. With the marvelous enthusiasm, instruction and help from several members of the Polo Club they progressed to riding the polo ponies at the Dullingham ground.

Polo helps to improve concentration, confidence, balance, agility and co-ordination. The freedom of the polo ground, atmosphere and social life has also opened up new horizons for our players.

In 2003 our players were asked to parade at the Guards Club on No, 1 ground before the final of the Archie Davis Cup.

In 2004 six players played some really exciting Chukkas on Commonwealth Day, playing on a nearly full sized ground trotting and cantering and full of confidence.

In 2005 our team had the honor of parading at the Beaufort Polo Club on the day of the final of the Abercrombie and Kent Beaufort Cup in aid of RDA in the presence of HRH the Princess Royal.
